'It's so nice tonight,' Matthew said as he and Gilbert walked to a nearby park.
'Ja it is simply because you're here,' Gilbert responded with a grin.
'Ha ha Mr Cheesy,' Matthew chuckled but still smiled with a slight blush on his face. Gilbert smiled in return as he brought his arm around the Canadian's shoulders. He soon had snaked his other arm around the unsuspecting Canadian until he had him in a tight bear hug. 'Hey!' Matthew exclaimed realizing his predicament.
'Lookie here, I found myself a very lovely Canadian,' Gilbert laughed as he tightened his hold around the man. Matthew struggled against the hold laughing along with the albino who was currently hanging off him. One good twist had the blond free and racing away.
'Not fair Birdie!' Matthew heard behind him as he laughed and ran past the other people enjoying the evening. He continued running hearing, 'Dammit Birdie!!' again behind him. He laughed and ran until he was under the bridge that ran through the park. Suddenly he stopped and turned around causing the fast moving Prussian to run right into him.
'Ow…' Matthew said as Gilbert groaned in pain above him. But before Gilbert could move Matthew burst out laughing and couldn't stop. Gilbert shifted so he could look down at Matthew with a questioning look. Matthew just looked up at him with a twinkle in his eye and laughter in the air.
'Crazy Canadian,' Gilbert said, sweeping down for a quick kiss before rolling over and sitting up. Matthew followed suit still laughing.
'But you love this crazy Canadian,' Matthew pouted with a slight grin.
'Ja, I do,' Gilbert agreed going in for another quick kiss. Matthew kissed back sweetly then lay back in the grass and looking at the immense structure above and the sky beyond. Gilbert smiled at his boyfriend before laying next to him and loosely linking their hands.
Matthew smiled and lightly squeezed Gilbert's hand glancing over at him. He was slightly surprised to see Gilbert looking back at him. Gilbert smiled sweetly and looked back up to the stars. Matthew watched how the lights danced off Gilbert's pale skin and how he seemed to glow. He was beautiful.
'You're beautiful.' Gilbert's voice interrupted his thoughts with the very thing on his mind. Matthew blushed and shook his head. He wasn't beautiful. He was the one who carried too much baggage. He was the one who didn't deserve everything that Gilbert gave him. 'I know that look Birdie, stop thinking like that.'
'What look?' Matthew asked.
'That look that means it is time for an awesome distraction by the awesome me,' Gilbert replied standing and tugging Matthew up as well. Matthew tilted his head but followed Gilbert down to the river. He led them out on the dock and watched the moonlight reflect off the water for a moment before looking back at Matthew and smiled.
'Why are we out here Gil?' Matthew asked.
Gilbert looked around and sighed, 'Well it isn't as pretty as Germany but it will have to do.' He looked directly in Matthew's eyes. 'I love you Birdie, Matthew. I love you so much.' Gilbert slowly knelt on one knee reaching into his pocket and bringing out a small box.
'Gil?' Matthew stared wide eyed at the box. Things like this never happened to him.
'Matthew, will you marry me?' Gilbert asked with a pleading look in his eyes. Matthew took a step back in pure shock. This couldn't be happening. He was speechless. Gilbert swallowed hard and slowly stood up. 'I knew it was too good to be true.'
'What?' Matthew snapped out of his daze.
'That you would ever say yes.'
'Gilbert, I never said no.' Gilbert looked up quickly hope shining in his eyes. Matthew gave a small smile.
'Are you saying yes?' Gilbert asked taking Matthew's right hand and slipping the ring on it. Matthew barely spared the ring a glance before cupping Gilbert's cheek.
'Gil, why on earth would I say no?'
'So yes?'
'Mon Dieu Gil, ja, oui, yes! Yes, yes, yes!' Matthew exclaimed almost tackling Gilbert in a bone crushing hug. Gilbert wobbled, trying to take the new weight. The dock did not help.
'Oh scheisse!' Gilbert exclaimed as the pair tumbled into the dark river water. Gilbert surfaced first and immediately looked for Matthew. Said Canadian soon surfaced with a laugh. Gilbert watched as his glasses slipped further and further down his nose before taking a dive to the depths. With a quick hand the Prussian caught the delicate frames and handed them back to his now fiancé.
'Thanks,' Matthew said slipping his frames back on. 'Well this is an interesting twist.'
Gilbert laughed, 'This is so not awesome.' Matthew started treading water towards the dry dock but was yanked back by a strong arm. 'Birdie you can't leave me.' He leaned in for a kiss but was met with feathers as a nearby team of ducks took flight. Matthew swam back to the dock and Gilbert made to follow when he felt something land on his head. 'What the fuck?'
Matthew cracked up and almost forgot that he was supposed to be swimming. A very comfortable looking duck had made its home on Gilbert's silver locks. Even a few good shakes of the head were not enough to uproot the aquatic bird. 'Shoo!' Gilbert said loudly raising his hand to smack the bird. Fate was cruel to the poor Prussian. The bird almost had a smirk in its beak as it flew off right before Gilbert's hand made contact.
'Scheisse!!!!' Gilbert yelled out holding his head with the very hand he had hit it with.
'Come on animal tamer. You'll catch a cold if you stay in the water any longer,' Matthew chuckled climbing out on the dock. Gilbert chuckled as well and clamored up onto the dock.
'Now my lovely fiancé shall we head home and cuddle up under plenty of blankets and watch a movie,' Gilbert asked offering his hand.
'That sounds perfect,' Matthew replied taking the hand with a smile.
